Just a handful of cars on a Track weekend at Anglesey circuit in North Wales organised by BookaTrack. It was an open pit lane both Saturday and Sunday which meant I could just go out whenever I wanted! I also completed an ARDS course and got my National B race licence

There were the usual Elises / Caterfields plus a few Fiat X19's, a couple of MR2's a BMW 325i with full roll cage, and another Sierra, a 2.9i ghia 4x4

I had put some half worn Toyo Proxies on the car for this weekend and on my first session on track I found they slid around quite nicely. Drifting the car around school, dab the brakes a quick flick of the wheel to step the back out through Abbotts, then keep the car tight into the first part of radar which unsettles the car a little then throw the car through the right hand exit of radar and hold the slide ... lap after lap after lap

Towards the end of Saturday morning I got black flagged ..... as I had to do the ARDS course It was quite interesting, a lot of the stuff was just going over things that we already knew but it was good to refresh them. Then the instructor took us out in his 2.0 Mondeo which was very interesting. He showed us the correct lines, most of which I was following anyway and then showed us what happened when you take the wrong lines and how much difference it makes turning in a meter too early or late.

We then went out in our cars, I started off as he said building up slowly, getting faster and faster and by the end I was at about 98% just making sure to keep the car from sliding at all. He gave a few pointers about lines and turn in points as well which were very useful. Then it was back to the classroom for the exam paper. You have to know all the flags be able to answer 3 out of 3 safety questions (multi choice) and 6 out of the final 8 general multi choice questions. They were all common sense stuff that the instructor had already gone over and all 4 of us got all the questions correct and passed the driving assessment

Once that was all sorted it was time to practice my lines and do some smooth laps, not just throwing the car around. I managed to do a few laps then I just had to relapse into hooligan mode I was getting quicker and quicker through School, the car drifting all the way round, then on one lap I drifted a little too far and ran out of track! I put the outside wheels onto the grass and the car began to spin. I grabbed full opposite lock but it was far too late for that and round I went I was hoping for some rain in the afternoon but it never came never mind ......

After another hearty breakfast at the B&B I set set off back to the track on Sunday morning. Got straight back out on the track and got in some good sessions. Had a good play with an Elise and the BMW, I was quicker through School than the BMW but about the same round the rest of the track, though he was braking a little earlier than me. The Elise was about 100 yards behind me and whilst he couldn't catch me I couldn't get away from him, still all totally non-competitive Also had a play with the other Sierra, our suspension seemed to be better than his as I was able to catch him through the corners and then he ran a bit wide out of Radar .....

Towards the end of the morning there was a strange noise coming from the front n/s wheel. I pulled into the pits and there was a lot of play in the wheel and the hub nut was loose. So I tightened it up and went out for another try but the noise was still there. When I came back into the pits I found it was the wheel bearing that had gone After spending about 2 hours with a lump hammer I couldn't get the damn thing out so it was home on the back of an RAC truck Oh well, at least I saved £40 on fuel home!!!
